Is Windows 11 Worth the Upgrade? 10 Reasons Why You Might Want to Wait

Microsoft has officially released Windows 11 22 H2 major update with several fixes and improvements. Windows 11 was officially introduced by Microsoft on 5th of October 2021 after being tested with the Windows Insiders for the major bugs and other negative stuffs of the fresh OS. However, it seems to be a ridiculous haste of releasing the Operating System into the long awaiting community inspired with that Apple feel, in case of the new looking UI (User Interface) by experiencing a leaked version of Windows 11. However, as per the users, it didn't come up to the expectations in the release. And Windows 11 is still not at its satisfiable best. Here are the main reasons why Windows 11 is disappointing?

1. Stringent Hardware Requirement
2. Reduced Efficiency in Task Bar
3. Reduced Efficiency in Start Menu
4. Ultimately large Context Menu (Right Click Menu)
5. It compels you to use Edge by force
6. Microsoft Store is Still Struggling
7. Still needs a third-party Security Software
8. Still lacks a Perfect Video Editor
9. Clone of Mac & Chrome OS
10. Bad Form Continues

1.Stringent Hardware Requirements

When we take the necessary requirements of the Windows 11 in comparison with those that of the Windows 10. The below table significantly contrasts the gap between these necessities of the late two Operating Systems. But to be honest the Windows 11 requirements considerably fair. Because very surprisingly, the requirements; 1 GHz CPU, 4 GB of RAM & 64 GB of Storage are the minimum boundaries. Despite these requirements, Microsoft has really prioritized on the following hardware barriers.

1.      The CPU Must be recent

2.      PC must have TPM Security Chip

3.      Computer’s firmware should be capable of using Secure Boot

When going through the following concerns, we can realize the real intention of Microsoft. Obviously, they have tried to compel the users to buy a new PC by minimizing the capability of running the new OS on the Old PC even though your Old PC has fulfilled the basic hardware requirements, CPU, RAM & Storage more than enough. So, many of the users feel very disappointed regarding that.

2. Reduced Efficiency in Task Bar

Another annoying newly added feature is the new look and feel taskbar. In here they have obviously tried to imitate Mac. They have centered the icons as well as the Start button. But the real problem is that the Start button is not at the middle, but at the left corner of the pinned apps which ate centered. So, it is bit difficult to exactly say that the Start button is centered. So, it will be a negative experience for the ones who anticipated a centered one. However, fortunately they have allowed to arrange the Task Bar in the default mode that we have been used to use over the decades. And the other negative feature is that they have not allowed us to use small task bar icons just like in Windows 10.  So, it will be some sort of negative feel for those who worked with many applications on the task bar. And they have carelessly removed the News and interests feature from the Task Bar.  They have damaged that old arranged ordered Task Bar by trying to imitate Mac.

3. Reduced Efficiency in Start Menu

Start Menu can be termed as the main box of assets which include all of the installed applications. It orderly arranges the applications alphabetically allowing the users to easily access their necessities. Here I’ve taken the two Start Menus of the two operating systems into a one frame. With the center friendly OS, the Start Menu is also centered along with the Start Menu icons. And in Windows 10, we have the convenience of accessing some must important items like power, settings, pictures and documents. But Windows 11 Start Menu significantly lacks those features except power and account. And I prefer having tiles as it does nothing but boosts our works as they consist of some useful animations in addition to its size. Furthermore, Windows 10 facilitates the users with frequently used apps on top of the Start Menu (This has to be enabled). But Windows 11 has only offered the pinned apps and recommended apps at the very first glance. And in Windows 10 it is very easy to scroll through the menu in seconds. But in Windows 11, we have to click on ‘All apps’ and then scroll dedicating more time than before. Fortunately, we have the ability to align the Start Menu at its general location which our muscle memory was used to deal with.

4. Ultimately large Context Menu (Right Click Menu)

This is another negative feature which I personally do not like. Windows 10 right-click menu had each and everything which can be done with a file or a folder. But we do not have that privilege to see all of these options at once on one click. We will have to click on the ‘Show more options’ option at the bottom or simply press Shift+F10 in order to get rest of the options. But there is a way by which we could get that old right-click menu back into action. But it is not a Setting provided by Windows 11 just like they facilitated the users to align the task bar icons to its original position again.

5. It compels you to use Edge by force

As per most of the users, they are forced to use the Microsoft’s very own product, Microsoft Edge. Actually, this is not true. It is correct that they keep pushing messages to use Edge. But that never means that you can’t use any other browser. It is a kind of promoting done by Microsoft just like what Google does alerting us to use Chrome when we use services of Google using Edge. And now, I personally prefer Microsoft Edge with the features that it has got. Edge is developed based on the Chromium open-source project. And, now it is a better option to go with as it has also facilitated the users to install extensions from Chrome web Store in addition to the Microsoft Edge Add-ons.

6. Microsoft Store is Still Struggling

From Windows 10, it was a great issue to not to have a proper Store. So, it was much needed in Windows 11. But it didn’t come up to the expectations. Instead, they have added few applications to the store. It was rumored that Windows 11 supports Android applications. Literally, this is a much-needed feature in Windows as Windows users had to have that dishonest experience of running an OS inside an OS with those emulators like Bluestacks. Just like all the above disgusting features, Microsoft has introduced a STORE inside a STORE. Some android applications are included in the Microsoft Store. But upon the click on Install button, it opens Amazon App Store to open that relevant application. This is very frustrating to see.

7. Still needs a third-party Security Software

This is another feature that is absent in Windows 11. From the very beginning of Windows, it didn’t have a proper virus guard or a security software which is capable of defending the PC. Windows Defender doesn’t seem to have changed greatly in Windows 11 from Windows 10. Hence, we will have to continue using a third-party Antivirus Software.

8. Still lacks a Perfect Video Editor

In Windows 10 also, we had no perfect video editor, but a nominal simplest form of an editing tool called Video Editor. And it was a much-anticipated feature by the Windows enthusiasts in Windows 11. But in a hurry, they have introduced a very basic and simple video editor called Clipchamp as their recommended editor. But the thing is that it was available to download from the Microsoft Store, even before they introduced Windows 11. As well as still this editor isn’t capable of output around somewhat the Apple’s Final Cut renders out. And even this simple Clipchamp isn’t providing all the features for free as it has a separate Premium version called Essentials. So, this space continues to be filled further.

9. Clone of Mac & Chrome OS

Windows 11 does not seem to be a unique invention as it has added some features of Mac OS and Chrome OS. Windows 11 has got rounded corners as same as Mac and Chrome OS. Windows 11 task bar is more similar to the Dock of Mac. Apart from these major similarities, there are some other minor similarities among these operating systems.

10. Bad Form Continues

From Windows 7 to Windows 8, Microsoft had done massive changes. And Windows 8 had done a severe damage to the reputation of Windows. But in Windows 10, Microsoft replenished their reputation. But with the above discussed negative features, Microsoft has deliberately put again themselves into trouble.

However...

However, despite the above negatives, Windows 11 is still a good operating system to use because of the positives possessed by it such as rounded windows borders, new look and feel, translucent designs, snap layouts, widgets etc. And now it is even more perfect with the newly added features of Windows 11 22 H2 update such as File Manager Tabs instead of new Windows. And it will be more stable by 2025 as Microsoft ends the support for Windows 10.
